The four areas we cover

Greater Whangarei is not one situation, it is four. The housing stock, how the damp behaves and how much salt is in the air all change markedly between the inner city, the northern valleys, the harbour edge and the Bream Bay coast, and so does the unit that suits. Find yours below.

Whangarei city

Kauri villas through Kensington and the Avenues, and street after street of post-war weatherboard in Morningside, Woodhill and Otaika. High studs, single glazing and no wall insulation, so sizing is done on volume rather than floor area. Hill suburbs run drier and windier than the river flats.

Covers: Kensington, Riverside, Maunu, Whau Valley, Morningside, Woodhill, Avenues, Sherwood Rise, Horahora, Vinetown, Raumanga and Otaika.

Kamo & the north

Inland and lower than the rest of the district, so cold air settles overnight and the fog sits until mid-morning. Damp is the problem here rather than raw cold, and the unit is sized to hold a low steady output that dries the house out. Far enough from the sea that a standard-coated unit is fine.

Covers: Kamo, Tikipunga, Regent and Hikurangi.

Onerahi & the harbour

Right on the harbour, where salt is the thing that decides how long a heat pump lasts. Corrosion-resistant outdoor units, stainless brackets, and a position on the landward side rather than the wall facing the water. A rinse with fresh water every few months does the rest.

Covers: Onerahi and Parua Bay.

Bream Bay coast

Newer, bigger and more open-plan than town, and fully exposed to the open ocean. One high-wall unit rarely does a modern open-plan living area, so ducted and multi-split systems come into their own. About thirty kilometres out, so the job gets planned properly up front.

Covers: Ruakaka, Waipu, One Tree Point and Marsden Point.

Questions about the areas covered

What areas do you install heat pumps in around Whangarei?

Heat pumps are installed across greater Whangarei, from the city suburbs like Kamo, Tikipunga, Maunu and Onerahi out to Parua Bay on the harbour and down the Bream Bay coast. If you're in or close to town, your local installer will come out and quote the job. Not sure if you're in range? Just give us a call and ask.

Do you install heat pumps in Ruakaka and One Tree Point?

Yes, both. Ruakaka and One Tree Point are a regular part of the patch covered, along with Waipu further down the coast. A lot of homes there are newer open-plan builds near the water, so extra care is taken siting the outdoor unit away from the salt-laden sea breeze to make it last.
